Amazonas was founded by Matthias Saul almost 30 years ago after he returned to Germany from his travels through South America in a canoe, sleeping in a hammock he made with the help of the Huaorani Indian tribe. He began importing and selling hammocks to his friends and family but as demand grew Matthias began to realise his ambition to develop his own products and bring them to market. Today Amazonas is recognised as one of the best manufacturers of hammocks in the world with factories in South America and around Europe and Matthias is regarded as a specialist in his field.
