Originally conceived in 2003 as a playful self-portrait by Alessandro Mendini, Alessandro M. has long transcended its function to become a celebrated icon of contemporary design. With each iteration, this charismatic corkscrew has adopted new personas—each one a tribute to aesthetic exploration and the art of transformation.
For 2025, Alessandro M. returns in a striking new guise: a yellow and black chequered suit, bold in contrast and rich in symbolism. This hypnotic pattern—at once medieval and modern—recalls heraldic emblems, airport runways, and the graphic tension of tightly woven textiles. As Mendini himself noted, the chequer motif possesses a unique power to structure form, drawing the eye into a mesmerising interplay of colour and geometry.
Crafted from AlkiPaper®—a patented biocomposite made from paper and other naturally derived materials—the body is adorned with a hand-applied graphic sticker. The internal mechanism, composed of chrome-plated zamak and rolled steel, ensures smooth, efficient uncorking with every use. Zamak’s low melting point contributes to reduced energy consumption during production, while its non-polluting properties make it a more environmentally considerate choice.
AlkiPaper® offers the tactile appeal of plastic but is engineered to decompose under controlled conditions, making it a more sustainable alternative. Each component, including metal and nylon elements, is designed for easy disassembly and recycling.

Our standard delivery service is with DPD or Royal Mail Tracked 48 service for UK mainland orders, for Scottish Highlands and Islands and Northern Ireland we use Royal Mail

UNDELIVERABLE ORDERS
If an order is returned to us because it is undeliverable due to an incorrect delivery address, or if it is not collected from a courier pick‑up point and subsequently returned, we will refund the cost of the items minus any delivery charges paid.
Please note, we cannot accept responsibility if you choose to change the delivery address or request for your parcel to be left in a safe place after despatch.
