How To Create A Hotel Style Bedroom

Whether you’re staying in a boutique hotel or a 5 star suite, you can’t compare that first feeling of unlocking the door and walking into the clean and calming environment of a hotel room for the night. Here at Black By Design we’re taking a look at affordable ways to make your master bedroom look like a luxury hotel room. We may not be able to provide the city views or exotic temperatures of travelling, but we can inspire you to look closer to home when transforming your master bedroom into a mini getaway sanctuary.

Room layout

We’re all familiar with the usual room layout of a hotel room, but these things have actually been cleverly thought out. A bed away from the wall adds positive Feng Shui; allowing the air to circulate around the bed whilst you sleep apparently inspires positive thinking! A dark wood or fabric headboard gives a sense of grandeur, whilst some hotels use vertical stripe carpets to give the illusion of a larger room. A strategic redesign of the bedroom can have a big effect.

Keep the bedroom windowsill free from clutter and decorate with long curtains in one shade to give the illusions of a larger window. If you prefer blinds, stick to white, black or wood effect as the neutral finish is more likely to blend in well with the room decor.

Matching bedside tables either side of the bed provides an aesthetically pleasing symmetry. We love the chic minimalist look of the side tables from Wireworks with the mix of black or white and oak wood. The top can even be removed and used as a tray – perfect for breakfast in bed!

Creating zones

If your master bedroom is large enough, take advantage of the space by adding a beautifully upholstered chair or loveseat. Include a designer floor lamp to this ‘zone’ of the bedroom and you’ve created yourself a lovely book reading area.

Every girl dreams of having a beautiful dressing table area to get ready in each day. For extra storage, search for a dressing table with drawers either side so you can have all of your beauty essentials to hand. With this obviously comes a mirror, and we have plenty of contemporary mirrors at Black By Design. The Prisma wall mirrors from Umbra incorporate the popular geometric design with black, copper or brass frames and can be hung horizontally or vertically for a multifunctional statement.

Bedroom accessories

There’s so much you can achieve with home accessories. From providing a decorative element, to bringing an entire room design together. Firstly, invest in some premium bed sheets. This way, you can replicate that wonderful feeling of slipping into Egyptian cotton sheets on the first night of your hotel stay.

What is a hotel room without framed wall art? You needn’t hang an abstract watercolour piece if that simply isn’t your style, but perhaps choose something closer to your heart to have framed which you can enjoy every. Think uplifting quotes or black and white photography.

Embrace show cushions and pillows. Not only does extra cushions make your bed appear even more inviting, they can be an excellent way to incorporate different shades of your chosen colour scheme and add new textures. Cushions on a bed just bring the whole look together, and a well presented bed is so appealing! Two simple velvet cushions from Hannah Williamson paired with a bolster cushion from Twig would look lovely on plain white sheets.

Lighting plays such an important role in our homes, especially bedrooms. Many 5 star hotel rooms have statement light fixtures which really add a wow factor and act as a focal point for the room. We love the statement pendant lights and lampshades from Danish brand Vita Copenhagen which have a life of their own with their flamboyant designs. You’re also able to coordinate lights with their range of desk lamps and floor lamps.

If you have an en-suite, you’re able to continue the hotel inspiration in there with cleverly placed lighting, fluffy white towels and neutral decor. Install two wall lights either side of a large mirror for flattering illumination whilst brushing your teeth or getting ready as an alternative to a main recessed light. Having extra lights in your bathroom is a decadent touch, especially if you’re able to dim them to create an ambient setting for relaxing baths or showers. For a quick hotel bathroom fix, treat yourself to some Le Jacquard Francais white cotton towels and bathrobe.
